Well, we are back from Metrocon 2005 and it was fun. The human chess match is an intertesting concept that many enjoyed, there was a fair amount of venders, and even an AMV contest. If you are in Florida and enjoy anime conventions this is worth the time and money. Now mind you this is only the third one and there is room for improvment. The chess match fights could have been faster, and it is hard to hear the minor characters towards the back of the room. The game room was done very well. I really don't see room for much improvement there. I mean, hell they even had a sega dreamcast and sega saturn set up. Not to mention the very popular DDR arcade machine. The only thing I can really think of to improve this is better ventalation but they can't really control that. The venders, while many, were not that great. Most of the "deals" to be had on dvd's were on used ones and the imported music was fairly overpriced. The best deal in my opnion was the manga. Manga tended to be 20% off with no tax charged. There was alot and I mean ALOT of cosplayers and most actually had good costumes. In all I think the con was planned and run well. The only thing I didn't really agree with was the AMV contest. While watching half the videos I just had a feeling that there had to be better AMV's sent in. Not even counting Spork of Doom's. I sent it in last miniute and for all I know it didn't arrive in time. Again this may have been something out of their control. Maybe I'm wrong about better AMV's being submitted. This also just comes down to personal preference. The one thing I can be alittle upset about is the lack of the Action catagory that was listed on the website. In the winner listing there is no action AMV listed. Again this may have been due to the AMV's submitted. I just have a hard time believing that there was no action AMV sent in that wasn't a "... "Mortal Kombat" theme with a bunch of fight footage or "Danger Zone" with lots of dogfights...". (Even if there was, our's could have counted as action-Pen_Dragon)
In closing I again can't stress enough that this con is definetly worth going to. I believe in time this convention can only get better. I am looking forward to going next year.
